My Scholarship Essay
My name is Emily Jenuwine and ever since I was a little girl, dreams were never to be forgotten. As Walt Disney says, if you can dream it, you can do it. I have always believed in what Walt Disney said, since he created the most magical place for kids. I always tired my best to live for them and strive for my goals and dreams. My mom and dad always believed in me and stood by my side no matter what, even if their not together anymore they still love and believe in me equally. I mostly live with my mom and I have grown amazingly close to her since she’s my number one parent. I stayed with for the past 3 years and still stay with her now. I love my mom a lot and I look up to her as a role model too. She has sacrificed too much for my sister and I. She’s currently working a part time job, but still pays for vacations because she wants to create more memories with my sister and I. I appreciate what my mom does for my everyday and I make sure I help her out as much as I can. I try my very best to impress my mom and make her proud, since she makes me proud everyday.
I’m currently in varsity cheerleading, the National Honor Society, and AP History at my home school. These activities greatly influence my high school experience and make high school important to me. I’m constantly working, keeping my grades up and helping the community. In Varsity cheer we are always funding and raising money for the cheer team and for others in the community. In the fall we host a little girl cheer gym, where we have kindergarten through fifth grade cheer with us for one game. We make sure they have fun and we help them on their skills, including tight motions, stunting, and tumbling. I try to make their time valuable and not goof off. I am very determined when I start something. And I wanted these little girls to love cheer, not only for themselves, but to improve the new cheerleaders in our community and hope to have lots of girls want to cheer and be apart of an amazing team. I absolutely love my cheer team and couldn’t ask for a better, we get along so well and try out best to help each other. When I’m at practice I feel like I don’t have to pretend to be something I’m not. I’m always trying to improve my skills and make my team proud and glad that I’m in cheer.
The National Honor Society influenced my community service and made me want to strive to help people. We helped a ton of people last year and my goal this year is to help more. During my time in the National Honor Society we helped people in our community and organizations that we wanted to help. I was in charge of the Abe’s Army foundation. Abe’s Army is a organized program that we created to help Abe Guerrero, a boy in our community that was diagnosed with cancer multiple times, and we decided to give back to him and help his family out! We sold t-shirts that say Abe’s Army and sold them for a profit to help him out, we organized a zumba dance class that all profits go the family, we had a bake sale, and during the zumba class we babysat children while the parents were dancing. I tried my hardest to make Abe’s and his family’s life helpful, especially since I happen to be very close to Lexi Guerrero, Abe’s sister, who is also in cheer with me. Abe’s fundraising made me realize how much you can do for a person with simple tasks. I learned a lot from the National Honor Society and I hope to continue to learn new ways to help my community out when someone is in need of help. This year I took on more responsibility and is now captain of Abe’s Army and United Way. United Way is an organization that helps homeless people in Lapeer county. Last year we did a blanket and backpack drive. It was amazing how fast people came to receive our blankets and backpacks.
Homework and studying is a big deal to me. I always make time for at least 3 hours to complete my homework, or just to study. Getting good grades is always a hard task, but it’s worth it when you see a great grade on a test or a big report. I decided to push myself even more this year by taking AP History. I love history anyways, so I thought, why not take a chance and expand my knowledge. So far during the class I’m really enjoying what I’m learning. I love how you can have your own opinions in class, actual have debates, and conversations! I love being apart of such an amazing class! My teacher, Mr. James is wonderful. He makes history something personal and fun. He makes you engage and want to be there. I love his teaching skills and I’m so glad I took the risk to take this course.
As Vince Lombardi says “The price of success is hard work, dedication to the job at hand, and the determination that whether we win or lose, we have applied the best of ourselves to the task at hand.” Vince was right all along, when you put in effort and hard work you can accomplish. You can accomplish anything you can dream of, no one is standing in your way! My motive is keep on moving and reach for the stars. Earning the Mason scholarship would be reaching for the stars and accomplishing something amazing!
